JESUS IS LORD GOD OF OLD TESTAMENT
The question of who is Jesus really and where does He fit in causes confusion for many Christians and even non-Christians these days.
One the one hand we have those who will not even use the name of Jesus Christ and only His OT names YHWH or Jehovah for numerous reasons.
On the other hand many Christians say the OT laws do not apply because Jesus came to change everything the OT God said concerning the keeping of the law.
Others do not know who to address their prayers through and to.
In this short study I will show you that the Lord God of the OT is the same Lord Jesus Christ of the NT, and thereby solving many problems facing the earnest seeker today. I will quote scriptures from the OT and NT which will draw the links for you. We will also see that we have never had any personal dealings with the Father and it was Jesus all along who is the one we are to answer to.
John 5;37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
Mmmmm, well we know that Israelites in the OT heard and spoke to God. So who was it then if it was not the Father? See; Numb 11;25 ; Deut 4;33 ; Deut 18;16 Gen 32;30 ; Exo 24;9 and many more.
We know for sure that Moses spoke to God on the mount a few times while the Israelites were trekking through the wilderness. Who then was he hearing from, received the commandments from if it was not the Father? The next scripture states it quite plainly.
1 Corinth 10;1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
So that rock and that cloud that followed the Israelites in the wilderness, commanded them to destroy all the Canaanites, gave the law, fed and protected them was none other than Jesus Christ Himself!!
Deut 32;3 Because I will publish the name of the LORD (YHWH): ascribe ye greatness unto our God . 4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
Let us compare NT scriptures to OT scriptures.
John The Baptist
Isaiah prophesied of one who would make the paths straight and prepare the way for our redeemer the Lord (YHWH);
Isa 40;3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD(YHWH), make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
In the NT we find the corresponding scripture.
Math 3;1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias ( Isaiah), saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Again Isaiah prophesied about John the Baptist making the paths straight for YHWH of the OT which is none other that Jesus Christ our Saviour.
LORD of LORDS
In the OT the Lord God of Israel says to the Israelites;
Deut 10;17 For the LORD ( YHWH) your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:
In the NT we see John say in Revelations;
REV 17;14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
We all know that the lamb of God that John is referring to is the same person John the Baptist was speaking about here, Jesus.
John 1;29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Again we see YHWH says He is the Lord of lords, who is the Lamb of God the same being Jesus.
The Stumbling Stone
Isaiah again prophesied that YHWH would be a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence but a sanctuary for those who believed.
Isa 8; 13 Sanctify the LORD (YHWH) of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. 14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Peter says exactly the same about Jesus here.
1Peter 2; 7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
Who Laid the Foundations ?
David says in one of his psalms that the Lord (YHWH) created the heavens and the earth.
Psa 102;24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations. 25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. 26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: 27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.
Below the author of Hebrews says the same thing about Jesus, he even calls Him Lord.
Hebrews 1;10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
Who Is our Saviour?
Again in Isaiah we find the Lord God ( YHWH) saying He is the only God and He is the Savior.
Isa 45;21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. 22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
Paul proclaims that Jesus is the Saviour and there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved.
Acts 4;11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
John says the same thing, there is no salvation but through Jesus Christ.
1 John 4;14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
Do we have a contradiction in the scriptures or do we have two saviours? No, only one saviour, the one in the same, the Lord God YHWH of the OT being Jesus Christ coming in the flesh in the NT.
.Who Does Jesus say He is?
Let us see who Jesus says He is;
John 8;58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
So Jesus is saying before Abraham was born, He is the I AM. Now we look in the OT for who the I AM is.
Exo 3;13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Again Jesus is telling us that it was He with Moses when they were captive in Egypt. Amazing!!
Jesus goes on to say to the churches in revelations who He is.
Rev 1;17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
Rev 2;8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;
REV 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
In the OT we see lord God (YHWH) say the same thing about Himself.
Isa 44:6 Thus saith the LORD(YHWH) the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Isa 48:12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
Conclusion
Do you see now friends why God never changes, He is the same yesterday, today and forever because He is the same Lord God, YHWH, Jehovah from the OT, who set out the commandments to start with? Who accompanied our forefathers and delivered them from their enemies in the OT. Who is Jesus, Jehoshua, the lamb and Son of God who is risen and sits at the right hand of the Father. The beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega!
So this is what the following scripture actually means:
1 Corinth 12; 3 and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord (YHWH), but by the Holy Ghost.
Jesus says there is no way to the Father but by Him and we are to pray to the Father in His name. Which name is this? This is the name of the saviour Jesus Christ. If we do not pray through Jesus we pray to Jesus before He gave up His life for us. Then what was the point of YHWH coming as a man and shedding His blood for us?
Many pray through the name of Jesus back to YHWH or Jehovah, who is Jesus, thus they pray amiss as their prayers are not directed at the Father. Jesus says Himself;
John 16;23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. 25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father. 26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: 27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
